The Now/ledge

A Guide to the 'Now' Revolution in News / by Alan Soon

Wire agencies — it’s time to really worry

They are coming for you. You, being the wire services that is.

Google has taken a step forward with its Finance product, adding real-time news streams. That means you’ll be getting automatic updates on the market news page, without having to hit refresh.

This sounds a little like the live feed on Facebook or Friendfeed.

More significantly, this is clearly part of a move to bring Finance closer to the services offered by agencies like Bloomberg and Reuters. It’s not going to change the game overnight, but it’s definitely headed that way.

I suspect this could be a test bed. The holy grail remains Google’s News site. If this takes off, you can expect to see the same feature rolled out on News.

Then you’ll really know they’re coming for you.
